Mission Statement

The Archives serves the Overton County community in the preservation and administration of both historic and current records collections.
The primary purpose of the Archives is to collect, preserve, maintain and make available County Court records of legal or historical value.
The Archives also serves as the repository for historically valuable County Court records. The Archives administers the retention program overseeing the storage and use of these records.

Planning Your Visit

Schedule an appointment


We politely request that you schedule an appointment by phone or e-mail to visit the archives. This allows us to make the most of your visit by identifying relevant collection items prior to your arrival.

Using the archives


You may use computers or mobile devices in the public research area. We have free wi-fi and a microfilm reader. Scanners and other imaging equipment are prohibited.

Attribution


Users are solely responsible for obtaining copyright clearance before publishing or otherwise repproducing/distribution archival material. Copyrighted material must be used in accordance with 37 CFR ยง 201.14. While the archives houses an item, it does not necessarily hold copyright on the item, nor may it be able to determine if the item is still protected under current copyright law.

Specific citation of where the image or document is located should be made in the proper acknowledgements section, footnote, or bibliography.

Group Education at the Archives

For Adults


The Archives offers free, educational group presentations and periodic genealogy classes. These events offer participants an opportunity to engage with historical documents and learn more about the county. You can contact us by phone or e-mail to schedule a trip, or register for the next genealogy class.


For Kids

The Archives offers field trips by request which feature interactive, group centered learning that's guaranteed to provide historical entertainment. Children will have the opportunity to see real historical archives and engage with the history of Overton County.
